Sanju Samson has continued his dream run of form following the 2025 Asia Cup squad announcement. The elegant right-hander smashed an 83 (41), batting as an opener for Kochi Blue Tigers in the 22nd Match of the Kerala Cricket League at the Greenfield International Stadium.<\/p>\n

His typically aggressive knock included as many as nine sixes and a couple of fours. One of those sixes was a stunning no-look shot down the ground, where he just put his head down, smashed it out of the park, and only then looked up to see where it was going. This was Samson\u2019s fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in the tournament after 121(51), 89(46), and 62(37). He\u2019s currently the second-highest run-scorer in the league with 368 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 186.80.<\/p>\n

It bodes quite well for him ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE. Although he has been the team\u2019s opener for some time now, there\u2019s much more competition in this tournament.<\/p>\n

The selectors have included Shubman Gill in the side. The Test captain opened for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 and came out as the second-highest run-scorer, whereas Samson was injured for most of the games and had an underwhelming outing.<\/p>\n

More importantly, he\u2019s also the team vice-captain, which means if the team decides to use him as an opener, one of Samson and Abhishek Sharma will have to sit out.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also a message to perhaps the IPL franchises and a reminder of the value he brings to the table. There has been a lot of speculation about his next team, starting with rumors that he wants to leave Rajasthan Royals.<\/p>\n

Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are said to be the front-runners in terms of interest in getting him in their squads, though anything is yet to materialise. The IPL trade window is open till close to the resumption of the next season.<\/p>\n
