Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar, who has now donned the hat of an expert, has reserved big praise for former India captain and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni. According to him, Dhoni is one of the greatest because of his ability to make the players better and also win titles with an inexperienced side.<\/p>\n

Dhoni was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in September 2007, and he did the unthinkable by leading the young Indian team to title triumph. In 2013, under his leadership, India went on to win the Champions Trophy title as well. The win in 2013 too was a special one because the team was going through a transition period at that time, and despite having many new players, India, under Dhoni\u2019s leadership, went on to win the title.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would rank Imran Khan from the days gone by, and after that, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, as to what he was able to do as a captain. I thought he single-handedly raised the bar for the team and got even, maybe an average team sometimes, an inexperienced team, for example, in that 2007 T20 World Cup to go and win titles,” Manjrekar said on Stalin Mathias\u2019 YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think he was different when it came to performances on the big stage. He played the final just like he would play one of the earlier league matches. I think the moment, just that whole stay that you have for the big finals, can get to a lot of players and definitely gets to a few captains as well. MS was different in that regard,” he added.<\/p>\n

Dhoni played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is during his 15-year-long international career and captained India in 60 Tests, 200 ODIs and 72 T20Is. Under his leadership, India became the world\u2019s No. 1 Test team in 2010, and he became the first and only captain in the world to win all three ICC white-ball trophies.<\/p>\n

Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, still plays in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings. In the world\u2019s richest franchise cricket league, he has won five titles as captain.<\/p>\n
