While most people expect an IITian or an IIM alumnus to be the driving force behind successful companies, it can also begin with a small hustle, a tiny salary and a desire that no one else notices at first. One such success story is of a Gurugram-based woman who earned up to Rs 1,200 per day to co-fund a unicorn.<\/p>\n

Meet Ghazal Alagh, the Co-Founder of Mamaearth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ghazal Alagh, born on September 2, 1988, in a middle-class family in Gurugram. She studied BCA from Punjab University and went on to expand her creative horizons with a summer course in art and design at the New York Academy of Art.<\/p>\n

She secured her first job as a Corporate Trainer at NIIT Chandigarh in 2008, where she taught software tools like Oracle, SQL and J2ME, with a salary of Rs 1,200 per day.<\/p>\n

Ghazal Alagh Began Her Startup Journey<\/strong><\/p>\n

A few years into her job, she began his entrepreneurial journey in 2012 with Dietexpert.com, a niche platform that offers individual diet plans. Although the venture did not last, it provided the foundation for something much bigger.<\/p>\n

Ghazal and her husband Varun Alagh introduced Honasa Consumer Pvt. Ltd. in 2016, with Mamaearth as their core brand, inspired by their experience as parents of an eczema-prone baby boy and the difficulties of finding toxin-free baby products in India.<\/p>\n

Starting with only Rs 25 lakhs, the company quickly grew into a massive brand.<\/p>\n

Last year in October, Ghazal and Varun took to LinkedIn and announced that Mamaearth has become India\u2019s third-largest skincare brand.<\/p>\n
