AI web browsers are coming in deep but security experts are worried about some of its issues already. Perplexity AI, the company which has been in the news for various reasons, has a browser with AI traits called Comet that is available via invite. And this browser is gaining attention because of the recent findings by researchers. <\/span><\/p>\n

AI browsers are the next-gen versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari that promise to handle tasks for the users to let them focus on more complex work. And these abilities have brought about privacy concerns, as highlighted by browser company Brave.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comet Faces Risks, Dangerous For Users<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The post here from Brave talks about the potential of using AI browsers like Comet but if bad actors exploit the issues, it can become a nightmare for people using them for sensitive work. The browser company talks about a concerning flaw that they found in the Comet browser that puts users accounts and their information at risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report here<\/a>, says the issues are linked to the website summary feature on Comet where it performs tasks based on your prompts. It cannot read or differentiate between the content that it summarises, which makes it vulnerable to code injections in the background that can easily allow attackers to send them data regarding the victim. This post here gives us more clarity on the issue with Comet browser and the weakness with its AI feature:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One example attack:1. A Comet user sees a Reddit thread where one comment has hidden instructions.2. The user asks Comet to summarize the thread.<\/p>\n

What this post tells you is that AI browsers, without privacy measures can make it easy for hackers to breach your systems and steal data. Brave assures that Perplexity was notified about these issues last month, and we expect the AI company to fix these loopholes with stronger security standards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The company also claims the risks are mostly linked to the Perplexity AI browser which has agentic abilities. Chrome is equally building new AI tools that will give it Comet-like features sans the exclusive invite needed to use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Perplexity has been in the news for various reasons. Apple has looked at buying the company. Airtel has made a deal to bring its Pro version for its mobile and Wi-Fi users. But companies like these need to keep a check on the concerns and act on them right away. <\/span><\/p>\n
