The PCB banned using Pakistan’s name in private leagues after Indian players refused to compete against ‘Pakistan Champions’ in the World Championships of Legends.<\/h2>\n

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enforced a ban on the use of the country\u2019s name in teams participating in private cricket leagues.<\/p>\n

This decision follows an incident in the World Championships of Legends (WCL) where Indian players refused to compete against the \u2018Pakistan Champions.\u2019<\/p>\n

What Did PCB Say?<\/h2>\n

Telecom Asia Sport reported that the PCB decided to eliminate the use of Pakistan\u2019s name in private cricket leagues after the ongoing WCL in the UK was portrayed as a contest between India and Pakistan. Sources informed Telecom Asia Sport on Friday that the decision was made after a comprehensive discussion during the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday. High-level authorities felt that the Indian players\u2019 refusal to play Pakistan in the second edition of the WCL twice was damaging to the country\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision was taken after a detailed discussion in the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday,” sources were quoted as saying in the report.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe high-level authorities felt Indian players refusing to play Pakistan in the WCL\u2019s second edition twice is hurtful to the name of the country,” the sources added.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, no private organisation will be permitted to use Pakistan\u2019s name for private leagues. However, the current Pakistan Legends team will be allowed to play in Saturday\u2019s final against South Africa.<\/p>\n

The reports indicated that several private organisations have used Pakistan\u2019s name to participate in minor and low-profile leagues in countries such as Zimbabwe, Kenya, and the USA.<\/p>\n

Sources close to the PCB stated, \u201cAll private organisations will face legal action in case they use Pakistan\u2019s name. PCB has the sole right to allow its use for cricket events if it finds the authenticity of the League and the organisation as reputable.”<\/p>\n

It has also been reported that the Pakistan government and the IPC (Inter-provincial coordination committee), responsible for overseeing sports in the country, have issued an advisory to the PCB to regulate the use of the country\u2019s name in private cricket leagues in the future.<\/p>\n
