Former Australia captain Michael Clarke took to Instagram on Wednesday (August 27) to share post via which he confirmed that he underwent surgery to cure skin cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cSkin cancer is real! Especially in Australia. Another one cut out of my nose today. A friendly reminder to get your skin checked. Prevention is better than cure but in my case, regular check ups and early detection is key. So grateful that @drbishsoliman_ got it early . @australianskincancerfoundation,” the captioned the post.<\/p>\n

According to 7news, the 44-year-old former Australian captain received his first diagnosis in 2006 and has had about a dozen cancers removed in the years since. He required surgery to remove a dangerous basal cell carcinoma from his chest last year. He had cancers cut out of his forehead and face on separate occasions in 2023.<\/p>\n

In 2023, he teamed up with Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, and told Sunrise that he tries to get checked twice a year.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust about every time I need to get things zapped off my body, particular my face because I\u2019ve spent so much time in the sun,” Clarke said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve probably had 20 skin cancers cut out of my body. I get nervous but I think the advantage is I went from quite a young age so now I know, minimum twice a year I\u2019ll make sure I go and get checked.”<\/p>\n

\u201cPeace of mind is so important. Australian summer, this sun here is as strong as anywhere in the world.”<\/p>\n

Record as cricketer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Clarke, who led Australia to the 2015 ODI World Cup title win, played 115 Tests, 245 ODIs and 34 T20Is for the six-time ODI World Cup winners from 2003 to 2015. He amassed a total of 8643 runs in Tests, 7981 runs in ODIs and 488 in T20Is. He also dismissed a total of 94 batters, of which 31 were in Tests and 57 in ODIs.<\/p>\n

In 2013, Clarke won the ICC Cricketer and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards. He played nine Tests in the 2012-13 season and in 16 innings, with the help of four centuries and as many fifties, scored 1178 runs with an average of 84.14.<\/p>\n
