Zak Crawley is playing as an opener for England in the ongoing fifth Test against India at The Oval. The right-handed batter hammered 52 runs from 43 balls for the Ollie Pope-led side during the morning session of the second day\u2019s play at the iconic stadium in London. During his stay at the crease in the first session on Friday (August 1), Crawley completed 3000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC).<\/p>\n

He needed 38 runs in the ongoing match to join the 3000-run club of batters.<\/p>\n

He is the third English batter after Joe Root (5946 runs) and Ben Stokes (3616 runs) and the overall seventh batter in the world to score 3000+ runs in the WTC.<\/p>\n

Crawley added 92 runs in 12.4 overs with Ben Duckett for the first wicket on Friday and helped his side make a rocking start. During their 92-run stand, Duckett and Crawley also broke the record of scoring the most runs as opening partners for England in Tests against India.<\/p>\n

The previous record of most runs by an England opening pair against India was 932 runs in 20 innings by Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss.<\/p>\n

Crawley and Duckett needed 41 runs to go past Cook and Strauss\u2019s tally on Friday, and they achieved the objective during the morning session of the second day\u2019s play at the Oval.<\/p>\n

The overall record of scoring the most runs as an opening pair in Tests against India is in the name of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes of the West Indies. Haynes and Greenidge played 30 innings as an opener and added 1325 runs.<\/p>\n

Crawley and Duckett have added 50 runs for the first wicket against India eight times in Test cricket, which is an English record. Greenidge and Haynes are the only other opening pair to have added at least 50 runs for the first wicket against India eight times in Test cricket.<\/p>\n
