Gold, Silver Prices In India Today, August 22: <\/strong>Gold prices on August 22 saw a slight fall, though increased expectations of US interest rate cuts following US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell\u2019s dovish pivot last week lent some support to bullion. In Mumbai, the price of gold stood at Rs 1,00,510 per 10 grams for 24-carat and Rs 93,050 per 10 grams for 22-carat.<\/p>\n

The price of silver stood at Rs 1,21,000 per kg.<\/p>\n

In the futures market on the MCX, gold futures (expiring on August 5, 2025) fell marginally by 0.02% to trade at Rs 1,00,361 per 10 grams, while silver (expiring on September 5, 2025) was trading marginally down by 0.21% to Rs 1,15,990 per kg in the morning trade.<\/p>\n

International Gold Prices<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the international market, US spot gold was down 0.2% at $3,364.29 per ounce, as of 0256 GMT, after hitting its highest since August 11 on Friday. US gold futures for December delivery eased 0.3% to $3,409.60.<\/p>\n

The US dollar index rose 0.2% against its rivals after dropping to a four-week low, making gold less attractive to overseas buyers.<\/p>\n

Powell on Friday signalled a possible rate cut at the US central bank\u2019s meeting next month, saying that risks to the job market were rising but inflation remained a threat, and that a decision wasn\u2019t set in stone.<\/p>\n

Markets are now pricing in an 87% chance of a quarter-point rate cut at the September 17 policy meeting, and a cumulative 48 basis points of reductions by this year-end, according to CME FedWatch Tool.<\/p>\n

Gold tends to appreciate in a low-interest-rate environment, which reduces the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion.<\/p>\n
