Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for concrete steps to make air travel more affordable and accessible to the public, highlighting the need to reduce both travel and operational costs in the aviation sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the inauguration of the Kerala Aviation Summit on Saturday (August 22), organised by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Vijayan emphasised a more strategic and inclusive approach to aviation development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for a planned approach to foster the growth of the aviation industry,\u201d he said in a press release, noting that reducing capital costs and ensuring efficient, time-saving travel must be priorities.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the significant contribution of Kerala\u2019s airports to the tourism sector and to the welfare of the state\u2019s large diaspora community. He lauded CIAL for its pioneering role, stating that it has “set a public-friendly model in the aviation industry by embracing technological changes and creating over 30,000 job opportunities.”

\nHighlighting Kerala\u2019s strategic advantage and growing infrastructure, Vijayan said the state is well-positioned to evolve into a major civil aviation hub. \u201cStrengthening air transport will attract more tourists,\u201d he added, stressing the need for increased investment and innovation in the sector.<\/p>\n

The summit aims to harness Kerala’s aviation infrastructure and explore its potential as a global aviation and logistics hub. Key objectives include bolstering regional air connectivity, attracting investment, and promoting sustainable development within the industry.<\/p>\n

Industries Minister P Rajeev presided over the event, which is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.<\/p>\n

During the summit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Airport Public Health Office (APHO) Health Centre at CIAL, highlighting the state\u2019s focus on integrating health and safety within its aviation initiatives.<\/p>\n

The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), in partnership with industry body FICCI, hosted the first Kerala Aviation Summit in Kochi.\u00a0The event was held at Taj Cochin International Airport Hotel on August 23 and will continue on 24th.<\/p>\n

CIAL officials said the event is to attract investment and foster innovation in the rapidly growing aviation industry.\u00a0“The summit is particularly timely, as the state government has already prepared a draft aviation policy to guide its strategic transformation,” an official release said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
