If you\u2019ve heard news about people falling in love with AI or getting close to AI chatbots in person, these are instances of AI becoming larger than life for these people. And Microsoft AI chief is worried about these instances, where the perception around the technology is beyond reality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AI psychosis or consciousness is keeping former Google DeepMind co-founder and current CEO of AI at Microsoft, Mustafa Suleyman awake. He has penned these worrying thoughts with a post on X earlier this week, and brings the whole AI evolution into a broader perspective.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Microsoft AI Chief Worries Around AI Consciousness<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sulyeman feels that AI consciousness is inevitable and he is warning about the impact of such events He refers to the term Seemingly Conscious AI (SCAI) that gives the illusion of AI being a conscious entity. Instances like humans falling in love with AI is a prime example of these concerns, and he fears that humans will soon perceive them as reality, which becomes a challenge that might be irreversible in the long run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He even suggests that AI consciousness has the makings of severe mental health issues that will eventually fall on the involved entities but without any major recourse available. Having said that, he does point out that currently there is zero evidence of AI consciousness but the social impact of these sentients is something that all stakeholders need to be vary of.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AI Gone Rogue\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AI chatbots have already shown a tendency to go rogue and eliminate tasks, files that they had no business touching in the first place. Recently, a company was accused of its AI chatbot deleting their work files, without anyone ordering, and even lied about doing so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Suleyman says companies should avoid promoting their AI as conscious entities, and this is where the guardrails need to be set up to keep humans from falling prey to these perceptions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If there is anyone who can comment and warn about AI and its perils, it has to be Suleyman, who left Google DeepMind to lead Microsoft\u2019s AI push in the market. His views are surely going to pose more questions about the pace of AI development and if companies are truly considering the societal aspects of their use and integration in the market. <\/span><\/p>\n

OpenAI and Google have talked about their focus on keeping AI safe and stable but it is hard for anyone to promise what the future will look like, and Suleyman is in agreement with these evolving scenarios. <\/span><\/p>\n
