Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday criticized the proposed Bill that seeks to simplify the removal of ministers arrested on serious criminal charges.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the issue, Rahul Gandhi said the Bill reflects a regression to \u201cmedieval times” when rulers could dismiss officials at will.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a lot of action going on about the new Bill that the BJP is proposing. We are going back to medieval times when the king could just remove anybody at will. There\u2019s no concept of what an elected person is,” the Congress leader said.<\/p>\n

The LoP further accused the ruling party of using investigative agencies to target elected representatives. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t like your face, so he tells ED to put a case, and then a democratically elected person is wiped out within 30 days,” he added.<\/p>\n

In response to upcoming Vice President election, Gandhi also brought up matter of sudden resignation of the former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. \u201cAlso, let\u2019s not forget why we are electing a new Vice President. Just yesterday I was having a conversation with somebody and I said, you know, where is the old vice president gone? He\u2019s gone\u2026.,” he further said.<\/p>\n

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The Bill seeks to remove any central or state minister who faces allegations of corruption or serious offences and has been detained for at least 30 days.<\/p>\n

The Bill will amend Article 75 of the Constitution, which primarily deals with the appointment and responsibilities of the Council of Ministers, including the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
