Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is happy with Shubman Gill\u2019s return to India\u2019s T20I squad for upcoming Asia Cup 2025 but is \u2018very, very sad\u2019 for Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both Jaiswal and Iyer have performed well for India in the T20Is and they were on fire in the IPL 2025 as well but despite that both the Mumbai-based batters were not considered for a place in India\u2019s 15-member squad.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the news of Gill\u2019s return and Iyer, Jaiswal\u2019s snub, Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel on Tuesday termed Iyer\u2019s sub as \u201csad” and \u201cunfair” and questioned logic behind ignoring Jaiswal.<\/p>\n

\u201cSelection is a thankless job. You have to let someone out. When you talk to them, you have to go through that sadness and disappointment in their faces. I hope, someone has talked to Shreyas and Jaiswal,” Ashwin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have Jaiswal as your third opener, you have brought Shubman Gill in the team by removing a person from the World Cup winning squad. I mean, I am happy for Shubman but I am very, very sad for both Shreyas and Jaiswal. It\u2019s just not fair on both,” Ashwin said.<\/p>\n

Highlighting Iyer\u2019s track record, Ashwin said: \u201cLook at the credentials of Shreyas Iyer. He went out of the team. But came in the Champions Trophy and did amazing batting. He won and gave it to you.”<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the answer is that Shubman Gill is in blasting form, Shreyas Iyer is also in high-quality form. Jaiswal\u2019s innings on a tricky pitch in the last game in the Oval\u2026 he is also in cracking form. So, how can you give an answer for this?”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Shreyas has done wrong\u2026 he did brilliantly well for KKR, made them win. He was sent into the auction. He then took Punjab to the finals for the first time since 2014. He overcame the short ball problem. He was hitting the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Jasprit Bumrah with ease in the IPL. I am just extremely sad for him and Yashasvi Jaiswal; it is extremely unfair,” he added.<\/p>\n

In IPL 2025, Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 matches for Punjab Kings after joining them for Rs 26.75 crore in mega auction last year whereas Jaiswal amassed a total of 559 runs in 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals.<\/p>\n
