East Zone captain Ishan Kishan on Sunday (August 17) was ruled out of the Duleep Trophy 2025. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was named as the captain of East Zone a couple of weeks ago but now will miss the six-team tournament starting August 28 in Bengaluru. 20-year-old Odisha stumper Aashirwad Swain was announced as Ishan\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n

The Odisha Cricket Association took to X to confirm the news.<\/p>\n

Ishan, who has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is for India since making his debut against England in Ahmedabad on March 14, 2021, last played a competitive match for Nottinghamshire against Somerset in Taunton from June 29 to July 2. In that fixture he scored 77 runs as a No. 6 batter.<\/p>\n

In Kishan\u2019s absence, Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran is all set to captain the East Zone team now. The 29-year-old right-handed batter from Bengal, who has 7841 runs to his name in 103 first-class matches played so far, was announced as Ishan\u2019s deputy for the Duleep Trophy.<\/p>\n

East Zone to face North Zone<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first quarterfinal match of the Duleep Trophy 2025, East Zone will face North Zone at BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru from August 28 to 31. Shubman Gill is the captain of the North Zone team, and the squad also includes the likes of Yash Dhull, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Anshul Kamboj and Yudhvir Singh Charak.<\/p>\n
