A former India cricketer believes that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are victim of BCCI’s petty politics.<\/h2>\n

The stunning Test retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has led to a wave of interesting reasons behind their respective decisions. Both had given no inkling of even harboring the thoughts of ending their respective Test careers. However, days before the India Test squad was to be named for the recent England tour, Rohit, via social media, said he\u2019s done playing red-ball cricket with Kohli following the suit a few days later.<\/p>\n

Former India fast bowler Karsan Ghavri feels that the two stalwarts could have been pushed out of the Test setup. He adds that Kohli could have continued in Test whites for at least a couple of years before pointing out how one of India\u2019s finest cricketers wasn\u2019t even given a farewell by the BCCI.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that\u2019s a mystery,” said Ghavri on the Vickey Lalwani Show<\/em> when quizzed over Kohli\u2019s sudden retirement. \u201cHe (Kohli) should have definitely continued playing for India easily, probably for another couple of years. But I think something really forced him to retire. And unfortunately, when he retired, he was not even given a farewell by BCCI.”<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch players, such a great player who has done such great service to BCCI and Indian cricket, Indian fans, should be given a fabulous farewell,” he added.<\/p>\n

Ghavri made a stunning claim that both Rohit and Kohli have been victim of internal politics within the Indian team management.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an internal politics within BCCI which is hard to understand. And I think, possibly, these are the reasons he retired prematurely. Even Rohit Sharma retired prematurely. They were asked to go out,” said Ghavri.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not that they wanted to leave. They wanted to continue. But the selectors, BCCI had different ideas. It\u2019s a matter of some kind of petty politics,” he concluded.<\/p>\n

Speculations are also rife over the ODI futures of Rohit and Kohli with reports claiming that the duo may retire from the format after the Australia tour later this year.<\/p>\n
