Legendary Australian batter Steve Smith has ignored Virat Kohli to pick Mumbai Indians and India legend Sachin Tendulkar as the Greatest Batter Of All Time. Tendulkar played a total of 664 matches for India during his 24-year-long international career and scored 34,357 runs in addition to dismissing 201 batters. He holds the record for playing the most matches in Tests and ODIs in addition to scoring the most runs in the five-day and 50-over formats of the game.<\/p>\n

Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 27,599 runs in 550 matches for India across formats. The former India and RCB captain is the third leading run getter in international cricket, and he also holds the record for scoring the most centuries in ODI cricket.<\/p>\n

During a quick round with BBC Sports Wales, when asked, \u201cFor you, who\u2019s the greatest batsman of all time?” Smith said, \u201cI\u2019d go with Jacques Kallis. I think, sorry, the greatest cricketer of all time is Jacques Kallis. Greatest batter of all time is probably Sachin Tendulkar.”<\/p>\n

Kallis played a total of 519 matches across formats during his 19-year-long international career from 1995 to 2014 and scored 25,534 runs in addition to taking 577 wickets. The former South African all-rounder scored more than 10,000 runs in both the Test and ODI formats of the game and also picked up more than 250 wickets in both of them.<\/p>\n

Smith, who has also scored more than 10,000 runs for the Australian team in Test cricket, was also asked to pick the bigger rival for him between India and England, and in reply he said, \u201cEngland. I mean, they\u2019re both huge rivals, but an Ashes, nothing beats it!”<\/p>\n

Smith has scored a total of 48 centuries for the Australian team across formats since making his debut in 2010, but according to him, his 144-run knock in the first innings of the 2019 Ashes series Test played at Edgbaston in Birmingham is his favourite century.<\/p>\n

\u201cFavourite hundred would be the first innings at Edgbaston in 2019.”<\/p>\n

Smith is playing for Welsh Fire in the men\u2019s Hundred competition these days, and in three matches played so far, he has scored a total of 58 runs. Smith will next be seen in action for the Aussies in the 2025-26 edition of the Ashes series. He last played a T20I for Australia in February 2024 against New Zealand and has retired from ODIs.<\/p>\n
