Tom Curran called Liam Livingstone a \u2018fat slob or something\u2019 during Birmingham Phoenix\u2019s four-wicket win over Oval Invincibles in the Hundred men\u2019s competition on Saturday. Livingstone, who put up a Player of the Match performance with a blazing fifty, said he didn\u2019t expect his \u2018good friend\u2019 to go that route.<\/p>\n

Curran\u2019s sledge backfired. He came to bowl the penultimate five deliveries of the innings (91-95) when Phoenix needed 22 off 10 runs and got smacked for two sixes, a four, a double and a single. It left them needing just three runs which, despite losing two more wickets, the Phoenix chased down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea why Tom started to spray me,” Livingstone told BBC Two<\/em>. \u201cHe is one of my good friends and he called me a fat slob or something so I thought \u2018let\u2019s hope you don\u2019t go for a few if you come back at the death\u2019 and he did so I\u2019m kind of happy with that,” he added.<\/p>\n

Livingstone remained unbeaten for 69 off 27 to get them to their first win of the season and lift them up from last place in the points table.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery special, we needed it,” Livingstone said earlier in the post-match presentation. \u201cThey\u2019re a great team, won it two years in a row. Nice to get one over them and hopefully give us some momentum. [The approach was to] try and get used to the pitch and use the bounce, try and take down their spinners. I back myself if bowlers miss, I can hit, and thankfully it came off.”<\/p>\n

A major feature of Livingstone\u2019s knock was his 26 runs off five balls against the world-class Rashid Khan, including three sixes and two fours. He became the first player ever in T20s (the Hundred is considered under T20s for statistical purposes) to hit more than 200 runs against the leggie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got a pretty good record just by stepping across and slogging him. It\u2019s worked in the past. I can\u2019t pick him so just try to do it that way. We let ourselves down a bit in the field. Something we don\u2019t want to do. Great win, got ourselves back into the tournament,” Livingstone added.<\/p>\n
