More than eight years after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theatres, long-time franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has hinted at the possibility of Johnny Depp stepping back into his most famous role \u2013 Captain Jack Sparrow. The update comes as fans continue to speculate about the future of Disney\u2019s swashbuckling adventure series.<\/p>\n

Depp first brought the eccentric pirate to life in 2003\u2019s The Curse of the Black Pearl, a performance that became central to the franchise\u2019s success. He went on to star in Dead Man\u2019s Chest (2006), At World\u2019s End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), alongside co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Tuesday, Bruckheimer confirmed that he has spoken with Depp about reprising the role for a planned sixth instalment. \u201cIf he likes the way the part\u2019s written, I think he would do it\u2026 It\u2019s all about what\u2019s on the page, as we all know,” the producer said. His remarks follow earlier comments expressing his desire to have the City of Lies actor involved, despite Disney\u2019s past decision to part ways with him.<\/p>\n

That split came amid Depp\u2019s high-profile legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. During the 2022 defamation trial, Heard\u2019s 2018 op-ed, describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse without naming Depp, was brought into focus. Depp told the court he believed Disney had cut ties with him as a result, and when asked by Heard\u2019s lawyer whether he would return to the role for \u201c$300 million and a million alpacas,” the actor replied: \u201cThat is true. There was a deep and distinct sense of feeling betrayed by the people that I\u2019ve worked hard for.”<\/p>\n

Plans for a sixth Pirates film have been in discussion since 2019, with no official announcements on casting or storyline. Bruckheimer has previously indicated that the next project may serve as a reboot, though he has also expressed hope that Captain Jack Sparrow could still make an appearance.<\/p>\n
