Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday came down heavily on the opposition for its conduct during Lok Sabha proceedings. He said their behaviour, which consisted of \u201cpetty sloganeering” and \u201cthrowing paper” at the Chair \u2014 occupied at the time by <\/span>BJP MP Jagdambika Pal \u2014 <\/span>has \u201clowered the diginity” of the House.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the ruckus, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11 am on August 18. <\/span>Chaos reigned supreme in the House soon after it met at 4.30 pm after earlier adjournments, as opposition MPs protested against the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll of us saw the conduct of the opposition today, they threw pieces of paper towards the Chair and did petty sloganeering\u2026We have come to the House by taking an oath. You have lowered the dignity of the House by throwing pieces of paper towards the Chair. I condemn this\u2026” Rijiju said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said when they (BJP) was in the opposition, they protested as well but in a \u201ccivil manner”. \u201cWe never tore up paper or did drama or spoke unparliamentary words\u2026the country won\u2019t forgive you. We have said again and again that if you have courage, participate in the discussion\u2026there is still time; mend your ways\u2026Don\u2019t waste time\u2026” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pal, who was in the Chair during the chaos, blamed the deputy leader of the Congress in the House, Gaurav Gogoi, who incited the actions and \u201chanded them the paper to tear it up”.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened in the House today wasn\u2019t done by the MPs, the Deputy Leader of Congress signalled them, handed them the paper for them to tear it up. No Deputy Leader would display such irresponsible actions\u2026” Pal said.<\/span><\/p>\n
