The BCCI continues to be criticised for the workload management of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the recent England tour.<\/h2>\n

Not everyone seems to be a fan of how BCCI is managing injury-prone fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah\u2019s workload. The Indian team management stuck to their original plan of resting Bumrah for two of the five Tests in England as the pace spearhead missed the final contest of the tour despite series on the line. India drew the five-match series 2-2, winning both the matches in which the senior pacer was rested.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old played in three Tests and finished with 14 wickets at an average of 26.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj played in all five Tests and was one of the only two fast bowlers to feature in every game of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, Chris Woakes, the other pacer to play all five Tests, injured his shoulder on the opening day of the fifth Test and didn\u2019t bowl for the remainder of the contest.<\/p>\n

The team treaded cautiously with Bumrah who has a history of back injuries with the most recent one after he played in all five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia which pushed him to the sidelines for nearly two months.<\/p>\n

Former India cricketer and chief selector Sandeep Patil isn\u2019t happy with the BCCI basing its selection based on the recommendations of team physio.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this,” Patil was quoted as saying by mid-day. \u201cIs the physio more important than the captain, than the head coach? What about selectors? Are we to expect that the physio will be sitting in selection committee meetings now. Will he decide?”<\/p>\n

Citing example from his playing days, Patil sai the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev never complained of being overworked when representing the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you are picked for your country, you die for your country. You are a warrior. I have seen Sunil Gavaskar bat on all five days of a match, I\u2019ve seen Kapil Dev bowl on most days of a Test match and even bowl to us in the nets. They never asked for breaks, never complained, and their careers extended to 16-plus years. I didn\u2019t miss the next Test after my head injury in Australia in 1981,” Patil said.<\/p>\n

Calling workload management \u2018nonsense\u2019, Patil said during his tenure as the chief selector, the committee never entertained such ideas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorkload management is nonsense. You are either fit or unfit and that\u2019s how we [his selection committee] picked teams. We did not entertain this workload business. Modern-day players have all the facilities. We did not have such rehab programmes in our playing days. At times, we carried on playing despite injuries. Let\u2019s just say we were happy playing for the country\u2026 no naatak<\/em> (drama),” he said.<\/p>\n
