US chipmakers Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have agreed to pay 15 percent of their revenue from the sale of artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China to the United States government, according to multiple media reports.<\/p>\n

The revenue-sharing agreement was reportedly finalised during a meeting at the White House last week between Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Publications including The Financial Times, Bloomberg<\/em>, and The New York<\/em> Times<\/em> described the deal as a highly unusual arrangement in international tech trade, aimed at navigating tightening US restrictions on AI chip exports to China.<\/p>\n

The agreement specifically applies to Nvidia\u2019s H20 chip and AMD\u2019s MI308 chip, both modified to comply with US export controls by offering reduced performance compared to their standard AI models. These versions were developed to allow limited sales to China without breaching national security regulations.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Nvidia did not deny the reported deal, saying it follows all rules set by the US government for participating in global markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we haven\u2019t shipped H20 to China for months, we hope export control rules will let America compete in China and worldwide,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica cannot repeat 5G and lose telecommunication leadership,” the spokesperson added. \u201cAmerica\u2019s AI tech stack can be the world\u2019s standard if we race.”<\/p>\n

AMD has not yet commented on the reported agreement.<\/p>\n
