Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday alleged that an attempt was made to entrap him in a honey trap during the Jharkhand Assembly elections held in November last year.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, Sarma said that two women had approached him and initiated conversations that he found suspicious.<\/p>\n

The Assam CM clarified that he immediately asked them to leave.<\/p>\n

Sarma linked the incident to a social media post by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, suggesting that the move may have been part of a larger political conspiracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no personal enmity with anyone,” Sarma said.<\/p>\n

At the time of the election, Sarma was the BJP\u2019s co-incharge for Jharkhand and was actively involved in campaigning and strategy for the party.<\/p>\n

The Jharkhand Assembly elections, held in November 2024, saw the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led Mahagathbandhan (INDIA bloc) return to power with a significant mandate. The alliance, which included the Congress, CPI(ML)L and RJD, won 56 seats, securing 44.37% of the total vote.<\/p>\n

The JMM alone won 34 seats with 23.44% of the vote share.<\/p>\n

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the second-largest party, winning 21 seats and securing 33.18% of the vote. The BJP-led NDA alliance managed a total of 24 seats, with 38.14% of the vote share \u2014 a result considered below the party\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n
