New Zealand thrashed Zimbabwe by an innings and 359 runs (X)<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

New Zealand achieved a dominating victory by an innings and 359 runs on the third day of the second Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Zak Foulkes, playing in his debut Test match, took five wickets for 37 runs as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 117 in their second innings.<\/p>\n

Nic Welch, batting at number three, made an unbeaten 47 and stood out against the New Zealand pace attack.<\/p>\n

This was the third-biggest win by an innings in Test history. England defeated Australia by an innings and 579 runs at The Oval in London in 1938. Australia beat South Africa by an innings and 360 runs in Johannesburg in the 2001\/02 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe bowled well in the first innings after losing the toss,” said Mitch Santner, who captained New Zealand in both Tests in the absence of the injured Tom Latham.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the batsmen got through some tough periods with their partnerships and then cashed in.”<\/p>\n

What Record New Zealand Break After Beating Zimbabwe?<\/h2>\n

New Zealand\u2019s previous biggest win\u2014and Zimbabwe\u2019s previous heaviest defeat\u2014was by an innings and 301 runs when the two teams met in Napier in the 2011\/12 season.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe suffered their sixth successive defeat\u2014four of them by an innings\u2014since beating Bangladesh in Sylhet in April.<\/p>\n

New Zealand declared their first innings closed on their overnight total of 601 for three.<\/p>\n

It took only three balls for Matt Henry to start the home team\u2019s collapse when he bowled Brian Bennett for his second duck of the match.<\/p>\n

Henry had Brendan Taylor caught at second slip, and Jacob Duffy took Sean Williams\u2019 wicket off his own bowling before Matthew Fisher had Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine caught at third slip.<\/p>\n

Foulkes, who briefly returned to New Zealand after a triangular Twenty20 series but was recalled following Nathan Smith\u2019s injury in the first Test, took the next five wickets. Foulkes finished with match figures of nine for 77.<\/p>\n

Devon Conway, who scored 153 for New Zealand, was named player of the match, while Henry, who took 16 wickets across the two matches, was named player of the series.<\/p>\n
