Shortly after the launch of OpenAI\u2019s latest artificial intelligence model, ChatGPT-5, Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned Microsoft chief Satya Nadella that \u201cOpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive.”<\/p>\n

Musk made the comment in reply to Nadella\u2019s post on X, where the Microsoft boss announced that GPT-5 is now available across Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure AI, and other major platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive,” Musk wrote, responding to Nadella\u2019s celebratory message on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Musk\u2019s reply, though brief, carried weight, reflecting his growing criticism of OpenAI, the very company he co-founded in 2015 but later fell out with. Musk has long expressed concern about OpenAI\u2019s close partnership with Microsoft and its direction under CEO Sam Altman.<\/p>\n

Nadella, however, did not ignore the remark. In a calm yet pointed response, he replied, \u201cPeople have been trying for 50 years and that\u2019s the fun of it! Each day you learn something new, and innovate, partner, and compete. Excited for Grok 4 on Azure and looking forward to Grok 5!”<\/p>\n

His reply referenced Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Musk\u2019s xAI, which is also building on OpenAI\u2019s breakthroughs but taking a different path.<\/p>\n

This exchange took place just as OpenAI unveiled GPT-5 to the public on 7 August. Touted as faster, smarter, and more reliable than its predecessor, GPT-5 is now accessible to all ChatGPT users\u2014free and paid alike. OpenAI says the new model brings major improvements in reasoning, safety, and responsiveness.<\/p>\n

Despite their rivalry, both Microsoft and Musk\u2019s xAI are betting big on the future of AI. While Microsoft integrates GPT models into its business and productivity platforms, Musk is focusing on building an \u201cuncensored” and \u201ctruth-seeking” AI through Grok.<\/p>\n
