But their needs are often the same: fewer distractions, more comfort and the freedom to stay in the moment.

Nike FIT, short for Functional Innovative Technologies, is Nike’s performance-apparel system designed for those needs. First introduced in 1991, FIT has evolved through athlete testing, material innovation and sport science research into four distinct technologies that scale across sports: Dri-FIT to help athletes stay dry, Aero-FIT to help them stay cool, Therma-FIT to help them stay warm, and Storm-FIT to help them stay protected.

Nike explains its FIT performance-apparel system, first introduced in 1991 and developed through athlete testing, material innovation and sport science research.
The four technologies are Dri-FIT for dryness, Aero-FIT for cooling, Therma-FIT for warmth and Storm-FIT for protection from the elements across sports and changing running conditions.

Each Nike FIT garment is specifically engineered by activity, offering benefits to best serve athletes wherever they play. Take running, for example, where needs can change quickly. As effort builds, so do heat and sweat. Temperatures drop, wind picks up, and a storm hits – sometimes all within the same mile. Nike’s FIT system of dress helps runners stay focused and comfortable for the run ahead.

Hear more from Alexa Manos-Gully, Senior Director of Apparel Materials Design.

What is Nike Dri-FIT?

As intensity and effort build, so does sweat. Clothes can become wet, clingy and uncomfortable.

Nike Dri-FIT is designed to help move sweat away from the skin and spread it across a fabric’s surface to evaporate more quickly. It helps keep athletes drier and more comfortable, with each garment specifically engineered to target high-sweat zones based on activity. From short runs and treadmill sessions to speed workouts and long efforts, this material technology is ideal for managing sweat and moisture.

What is Nike Aero-FIT?

Hard work can bring high heat — from the environment, exertion or both. Beyond managing sweat, athletes are looking to stay cool and comfortable.

Nike Aero-FIT helps manage airflow and sweat through mesh zones placed at the body’s highest heat points. This creates channels that allow air to move through the garment and near the skin, helping accelerate sweat evaporation and support the body’s natural cooling process.

To pinpoint the placement of the mesh zones, Nike sport scientists used heat mapping and motion data from athlete wear-testing in the Nike Sport Research Lab and computational design. The result is a fabric that is not only made from recycled textile waste, it also provides comfort on your hottest days and hardest runs.

What is Nike Therma-FIT?

Staying comfortable during cold-weather workouts can be a balancing act. As the body heats up, what feels warm at the start can quickly become too much, making it important to retain warmth while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape.

Therma-FIT uses insulating materials and tailored design to help retain warmth, manage excess heat and allow moisture to escape without relying on bulk alone. The result is warmth that works with changing effort levels and temperatures.

Nike researchers test Therma-FIT with athletes, including in the Nike Sport Research Lab’s climate chambers, to map how the body responds during movement. Across base layers, midlayers and jackets, Therma-FIT can be used to build a system around the activity and weather ahead.

What is Nike Storm-FIT?

Wind and rain can add chill, weight and discomfort, making it harder to stay focused. But protection shouldn’t come at the expense of comfort or mobility.

Storm-FIT combines weather protection with breathability, using woven barriers, coatings and laminated constructions to help block wind and water while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape. All Storm-FIT garments are windproof and offer water protection, ranging from water-resistant to waterproof. Nike designers tune each offering to balance protection, breathability and freedom of movement, helping athletes stay comfortable when the weather shifts.

Note: The headline, insights, and image of this press release may have been refined by the Fibre2Fashion staff; the rest of the content remains unchanged.

Fibre2Fashion News Desk (MS)

Source link

Athletes rely on apparel in different ways, whether chasing a PR on the course, a win on the court, or a goal on the field or pitch.
