For a late-day landing at 11.30 pm, the estimated proportion ranged from 55% to 77%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"artctxt\" id=\"article-20022063-5\">By comparison, measurements of actual flight crews operating daytime flights in Europe found that around 16 out of every 100 pilots were sleepy during the corresponding phase of flight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"artctxt\" id=\"article-20022063-6\">The Indian figures are predictions based on a sleep model, rather than measurements of actual Indian pilots. The review defined sleepiness as a score of seven or higher on the nine-point Karolinska Sleepiness Scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"artctxt\" id=\"article-20022063-7\">India&#8217;s pilot duty rules are prescribed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) through Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).
