Australia has expanded biometric collection to nearly 60 countries, including India, from October 26. Under the new rules, some people applying for an Australian visa may be asked to provide their fingerprints and a facial image as part of the application process.<\/p>\n
“The biometric collection is a part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure, efficient and trusted visa system,”<\/a> according to the Australian High Commission to India.<\/p>\n The new requirements apply to visa applications submitted on or after October 26. However, not every Indian applicant will automatically have to provide biometrics. The Australian Department of Home Affairs will inform applicants if they need to complete this step.<\/p>\n What changes for travellers?<\/strong><\/p>\n Applicants who are asked to provide biometrics may have to visit an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC) in person. Some eligible applicants may also be able to complete the process digitally through the Australian Immi App.<\/p>\n Those who have previously provided their biometrics at an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre and hold a valid passport may be eligible to use the app at no cost.
