The two countries have agreed to move towards UPI interoperability as part of a broader expansion of cooperation in digital public infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George said the rollout of UPI in Uzbekistan is expected within a year, according to ANI.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/images.cnbctv18.com\/cnbc-assets\/html\/mutual-fund.html?v=7.9&amp;page_type=article\" title=\"embedded-content\" width=\"100%\" height=\"370px\" frameborder=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width:100%;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/world\/india-uzbekistan-decide-to-upgrade-ties-to-comprehensive-strategic-partnership-19979835.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The official outcomes of Modi\u2019s visit said a commercial agreement<\/a> has been signed between NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) and Uzbekistan\u2019s National Interbank Processing Centre JSC (NIPC).<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, UPI apps in India will be enabled to scan Uzbekistan\u2019s national QR code, UZQR, for merchant payments, according to the Press Information Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>The arrangement is aimed at enabling interoperability between the payment systems of the two countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What this means for travellers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposed arrangement will allow Indian UPI apps to be used for merchant payments in Uzbekistan by scanning the country\u2019s UZQR code, once the system is operational.<\/p>\n<p>However, the rollout has not happened yet. The MEA has said implementation is expected within a year.The development was part of the outcomes of Modi\u2019s meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent.<\/p>\n<p>India and Uzbekistan also signed agreements covering areas including tourism, mining, education, culture and Ayurveda during the visit.<\/p>\n<p>The two countries have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and set a target of increasing annual bilateral trade to $5 billion by 2030.
