Under the proposed changes, travellers who apply for an electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) before travelling would pay 750,000 Indonesian rupiah (around \u20b94,050), while those who obtain the visa after arriving in Indonesia would pay 1 million rupiah (around \u20b95,400).<\/p>\n
The proposal was presented by Hendarsam Marantoko, Indonesia’s Director General of Immigration, during a briefing at the Directorate General of Immigration headquarters in Jakarta on August 12, 2026.<\/p>\n
Currently, both the e-VOA and VOA cost 500,000 rupiah (approximately \u20b92,700) for an initial 30-day stay. If approved, the new proposal would increase the e-VOA fee to 750,000 rupiah for travellers who apply before departure, while those who obtain the visa on arrival would pay 1 million rupiah.<\/p>\n
This would represent a 50% increase in the e-VOA fee and a 100% increase in the VOA fee. The VOA is initially valid for 30 days and can be extended once, allowing travellers to stay in Indonesia for up to 60 days.<\/p>\n
Indonesian immigration officials have said the current fee needs to be revised due to changes in the rupiah’s exchange rate. Officials also consider the existing fee too low in relation to the revenue generated by immigration services.<\/p>\n
Indonesia also wants travellers to complete the visa process before flying to the country. Under the proposal, those who apply online before departure would pay around \u20b94,050, while travellers who wait until arrival would pay around \u20b95,400.<\/p>\n
As of August 10, the Directorate General of Immigration had collected 6.54 trillion rupiah (around \u20b935 billion) in non-tax state revenue since the beginning of 2026. This represented 76.81% of its annual target.<\/p>\n
Visa services accounted for 54.9% of this revenue, generating around 3.6 trillion rupiah (approximately \u20b919.30 billion).<\/p>\n
The e-VOA is one of the most widely used entry documents for foreign visitors to Indonesia. Between January and July 2026, Indonesian Immigration issued 4,879,160 e-visas, including 4,323,319 e-VOAs. Between January and June, Immigration recorded 3,481,490 Visas on Arrival.<\/p>\n
The proposed fee increases have not taken effect yet. Indonesia’s official e-visa website continues to list the current visitor visa fee at 500,000 rupiah (approximately \u20b92,700).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
