The missing story is increasingly at factory level: Which manufacturers are losing orders, and which are absorbing them?<\/p>\n<h3>\t<strong>The number behind the headline<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Bangladesh earned $<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span>.<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span> billion from ready-made garment (RMG) exports in FY<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span>, compared with $<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span>.<span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span> billion a year earlier, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data published by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). That resilience has fuelled claims that hundreds of factory closures barely affected national performance.<\/p>\n<p>However, the widely circulated figure of <span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span> closures covers industrial units across several sectors between August <span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span> and June <span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span>. Law-enforcement data show that <span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span><span class=\"startxt\">*<\/span> were non-RMG factories.
