The Ministry of Railways is preparing to roll out the beta version of its IRCTC website, aimed at making online train ticket booking faster and simpler. The upgraded portal, developed alongside the upgrade of Indian Railways’ Passenger Reservation System (PRS), is expected to be introduced soon.<\/p>\n

According to the ministry, students at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, raised concerns about the IRCTC<\/a> website a few weeks ago, prompting the ministry to commit to launching a revamped version by July 15.<\/p>\n

\nStudents review beta version ahead of launch<\/strong>
As part of the final testing process, officials from IRCTC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) recently demonstrated the beta version of the website to students at MNIT. The students were invited to review the platform and share feedback before its official public release.<\/p>\n

\u201cFew weeks ago, students of MNIT, Jaipur pointed out the issues in IRCTC website<\/a>. We promised that it will be revamped by July 15,\u201d the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on July 10.<\/p>\n

According to the Railways, the portal is currently being integrated with the upgraded Passenger Reservation System, which is also undergoing significant improvements.<\/p>\n

Officials said the complete version of the new IRCTC website will become available after the modernised reservation engine is fully implemented over the coming months.<\/p>\n

Four major changes in the new IRCTC website<\/strong><\/p>\n

The beta version introduces several features designed to improve the overall ticket booking experience.<\/p>\n

Simpler Login Experience: <\/strong>The redesigned website removes unnecessary captchas or pop-ups, flashing graphics and other distracting elements.<\/p>\n

Seat Availability Across All Classes: <\/strong>Passengers will be able to view seat availability for all travel classes more conveniently while searching for trains.<\/p>\n

Faster Ticket Booking: <\/strong>The booking process has been simplified by reducing the number of steps required to complete a reservation, allowing users to book tickets more quickly.<\/p>\n

Easier Repeat Reservations: <\/strong>The portal will also allow passengers to save traveller details, making future bookings faster by eliminating the need to enter the same information repeatedly.<\/p>\n

Reservation system undergoing major upgrade<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new website forms part of a wider effort by Indian Railways to modernise its nearly 40-year-old Passenger Reservation System. “This required extensive work, because the system had to be operated throughout this journey of upgradation. We will launch the new Passenger Reservation engine very soon,” it said.<\/p>\n

Online ticket booking, introduced in 2002, now accounts for nearly 88% of the country’s train ticket reservations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
