It brought together around 200 representatives from government, employers&#8217; and workers&#8217; organisations and development partners to assess the draft against Cambodia&#8217;s national priorities and relevant International Labour Standards, according to the ILO.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and Chair of the National Committee for Occupational Safety and Health<\/em><\/strong> said, &#8220;The Royal Government is committed to realising a safe and healthy environment for all workers in Cambodia as a foundation for decent work and sustainable economic growth.&#8221; Minister Sour also said the draft OSH Law consolidates and modernises more than 20 existing legal instruments on occupational safety and health, supporting labour productivity, competitiveness and alignment with regional and international practices, according to the ILO.<\/p>\n<p>Cambodia has advanced its first comprehensive occupational safety and health law after a tripartite consultation in Phnom Penh.&#13;<br \/>\nThe draft consolidates more than 20 existing legal instruments, signalling a potential compliance shift for employers and sourcing teams.&#13;<br \/>\nThe ILO-backed process seeks alignment with international labour standards and stronger workplace safety systems.<\/p>\n<p>The draft is being aligned in particular with the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187). The ILO said Tun Sophorn, its national coordinator in Cambodia, highlighted the need for a sound legal framework, strong institutions, enforcement mechanisms and social dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of employers and workers expressed support for the draft law and underlined collaboration on workplace safety and health.
