During the first five months of *<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>, textile exports decreased by *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million. Over the same period, exports of other manufactured textile articles eased by *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million, as per the Central Bank\u2019s publication \u2018External Sector Performance \u2013 May *<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Combined exports of textiles, garments, and other manufactured textile articles accounted for *<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span>*<\/span> per cent of all industrial exports from Sri Lanka during the first five months of this year. Total textile product exports amounted to $*<\/span>,*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million between January-May *<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>, while the country\u2019s overall industrial exports were valued at $*<\/span>,*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million over the same period. This underscores the continued dominance of the apparel sector in Sri Lanka\u2019s industrial export base, despite ongoing global demand volatility.<\/p>\n

In May *<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>, textile and garment exports increased by *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent year-on-year to $*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million. By category, garment exports grew *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million, while textile exports decreased by *<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million. During the same month, exports of other manufactured textile articles were down *<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>.*<\/span> million.<\/p>\n

On the import side, textiles and textile articles decreased by *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>,*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million in January-May *<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>. The imports of clothing and accessories eased by *<\/span>.*<\/span> per cent to $*<\/span>*<\/span>*<\/span>.*<\/span> million.
