Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation<\/a> (IRCTC) expects its tourism business to grow 20% in 2026-27 (FY27), supported by rising travel demand and the planned expansion of premium train services across the country. Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Jain said the Ministry of Railways is aggressively expanding its network of Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat trains, creating new growth opportunities for the company.<\/p>\n

He added that more than 200 such trains are expected to be introduced over the next three to five years, making the long-term outlook for the business positive.<\/p>\n

\nThe company expects catering revenue to grow around 15% in FY27, while internet ticketing is likely to expand by 9-10%. Rail Neer is expected to grow around 5%. IRCTC is also working on increasing revenue from advertising, loyalty programmes and its unified digital platform.

Despite concerns over the ongoing crisis in West Asia, Jain said the company has managed to keep operations running smoothly. IRCTC continued serving nearly 18 lakh meals a day by shifting a large part of its food preparation to induction cooking in pantry cars and reducing dependence on gas supplies.<\/p>\n

“I am happy to inform you that, despite the crisis, inbound tourism in India on our Maharaja Expresses is the highest number we have achieved,” he said.<\/p>\n

The strong tourism performance helped IRCTC deliver a significant jump in its tourism business even during a period of global uncertainty. Domestic tourism also remained robust, supporting overall growth.<\/p>\n

On profitability, Jain said the company is targeting an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin of around 30% this year. While IRCTC’s business mix is evolving, with tourism and digital businesses expected to contribute a larger share of revenue over time, the company remains confident of maintaining healthy margins.<\/p>\n

“This year we have recorded the highest ever revenue and EBITDA,” Jain said.<\/p>\n

Going forward, IRCTC expects its revenue mix to gradually shift. Catering currently contributes about 45% of revenue, but the share of tourism, online travel services and non-convenience fee income is expected to increase over the next five years, providing new avenues for growth.<\/p>\n
