The ferries, named Kushavati and Salaulim, were recently launched at the upgraded Betim ferry ramp under the leadership of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, according to officials from the river navigation department.<\/p>\n
\nFaster and more comfortable travel<\/strong> Officials said the newly inducted ferries are larger than conventional vessels and come with modern, cruise-like features. They are powered by twin 480-horsepower engines and use a hydraulic navigation and ramp operating system, replacing the older manual setup.<\/p>\n Each ferry can accommodate nearly 150 passengers and up to eight cars, helping improve traffic movement between Panaji and Betim.<\/p>\n Commute time cut nearly in half<\/strong><\/p>\n Regular commuters said the new ferries have made travel quicker and smoother.<\/p>\n \u201cAbsolutely the best. Earlier, the journey used to take around six minutes; now it takes about three minutes,\u201d Betim-based commuter Chetan Bhosle said, according to PTI. He also appreciated the cleaner onboard facilities.<\/p>\n Another commuter, Sandeep Dongrekar, said the upgraded service would benefit daily travellers because of improved amenities and a more comfortable experience.<\/p>\n Push for inland water transport<\/strong><\/p>\n Officials said the initiative is part of the Goa government\u2019s broader plan to promote inland water transport as a faster, economical and more sustainable travel option.<\/p>\n The upgraded ferry service is also expected to ease vehicular pressure on roads connecting Panaji and Betim, especially during peak traffic hours.<\/p>\n For travellers visiting Goa, the new ferries could offer a quicker and more convenient way to cross the Mandovi River while moving between Panaji and nearby North Goa areas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Panaji-Betim crossing is one of the busiest river routes in Goa and is widely used by daily commuters as well as tourists.<\/p>\n
