In contrast, capital is moving into fabrics that solve problems: performance textiles, antimicrobial finishes, industrial-use materials and smart wearables.<\/p>\n<p>This is not fashion abandoning apparel. It is apparel\u2019s material base moving up the value chain. Commodity garments compete on cost and speed; functional fabrics compete on certification, durability, safety, chemistry and measurable performance.
