What Indian travellers check before booking hotels

What do Indian travellers check before booking a hotel? Indians primarily focus on three filters: type of stay, breakfast options and review scores. These are the most-used search filters on Agoda in 2026, the digital travel platform has revealed.

The insights are based on accommodation searches made between January 1 and April 15, 2026, across 10 Asian markets, including India, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.

For Indian users, the type of accommodation is the top priority, according to Agoda. Travellers are actively choosing between hotels, resorts, apartments and villas depending on their trip. This shows a clear shift towards more personalised travel planning, where users want control over the kind of stay they book.
The second key filter is breakfast. Many travellers prefer properties that include meals, as it adds convenience and helps manage overall costs. This is especially useful for family trips and short stays, where planning meals separately can be time-consuming.

Review scores are the third most-used filter. Travellers are relying heavily on ratings and feedback from other guests before making a decision. Higher-rated properties are often seen as more reliable in terms of service, cleanliness and overall experience.

The data suggests that Indian travellers are not just browsing, they are using filters to quickly narrow down options that meet their needs. This makes the booking process faster and more efficient.

Agoda said this trend reflects a broader shift towards smarter and more focused travel planning, where users depend on platform tools to make informed choices. The platform also announced upcoming offers, including discounts of up to 70% on May 19, along with deals on flights and activities. VIP members will get early access to these deals from May 3 to May 6.

With over 6 million properties listed worldwide, Agoda continues to offer a wide range of booking options through its website and mobile app, which are supported in 39 languages. It is clear that Indian travellers are prioritising convenience, flexibility and trusted reviews while choosing where to stay.

(Edited by : Sudarsanan Mani)

First Published: May 6, 2026 4:26 PM IST

Source link

What do Indian travellers check before booking a hotel?
