Some Republican lawmakers have pushed to privatise the TSA \u200bcompletely.<br \/>The budget details were unrelated to the funding impasse in Congress over DHS for the current \u200byear, which has caused airport delays as TSA workers have gone without paychecks.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump on Friday proposed requiring smaller airports to use private security instead of TSA as a first step toward privatising the agency created after the \u200bSeptember 11, 2001, attacks. The White House said this change would cut the TSA payroll by \u200bmore than 4,500 jobs. The TSA proposes to cut another 4,800 jobs by improving efficiency, ending staffing at \u200cexit \u2060lanes and eliminating redundancies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/world\/trump-jokes-about-running-for-president-of-venezuela-after-us-capture-of-nicolas-maduro-ws-l-19881644.htm\"><strong>Also Read: Trump jokes about running for president of Venezuela after US capture of Nicolas Maduro<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The employee cuts would save more than $500 million.<\/p>\n<p>The union that represents TSA security officers, the American Federation of Government Employees, opposes privatisation, saying it would make air travel less safe.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal would cut the agency&#8217;s $7.8 billion budget by about 20% and comes after TSA has \u200blost more than 1,600 \u200bworkers during government \u2060funding disruptions last fall and this spring. About 50,000 security screeners at US airports are TSA employees.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has been critical of the TSA. He fired \u200bits head, David Pekoske, on his first day in office in 2025 \u200band has not \u2060nominated a replacement.<br \/>Last year, the White House said, &#8220;TSA has consistently failed audits while implementing intrusive screening measures that violate Americans\u2019 privacy and dignity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration increased the size of the TSA.
