A new security alert from Google comes with a critical warning for Chrome browser users who are likely to face dangerous zero-day attacks if the issues are exploited. The actual security note was published by the company earlier this month and it has now rolled out a fix to cover these vulnerabilities, which Google claims, has been actively exploited in the wild. <\/span><\/p>\n

The issues facing Chrome are always severe because the web browser has over 3 billion active users and any risk or exploit in Chrome puts all of them in danger.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Zero-Day Threat<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The main concern with zero-day attacks is that Google is also unable to tell<\/a> the extent of damage and how many users might have been targeted. The company has decided to conceal the technical details of these attacks till most users have applied the fix on the browser to keep them safe from possible exploits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The main security issue in Chrome that Google has detailed comes with codename CVE-2026-3909 and it is said to affect Skia, which is an open-source graphics framework in Chrome that helps with rendering web pages and visuals. The company says the security issues are linked to an out-of-bounds write error that could be exploited to crash the browser or potentially execute malicious code.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the zero-day threat lingers for many, Google is offering a quick fix to these issues and helping billions stay safe from possible attacks. The company says people should install the Stable Desktop channel for Windows (146.0.7680.75), macOS (146.0.7680.76) and Linux users (146.0.7680.75) updates as and when they hit the respective devices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And like we mentioned before, Google is being cautious about releasing the details of these bugs and plans to do so once the patch has been installed by most users. \u201cAccess to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third-party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven\u2019t yet fixed,” it said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The company also says the Chrome update with the fix could take a few days or even weeks to reach all the users so you can either check for the update manually and let it automatically install when you open the browser after a system reboot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
