Smart glasses have become popular and most of you are worried about not knowing who is actually wearing them. Using these gadgets people can record videos or even capture other details which makes it an immediate threat to your privacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But what if we tell you there is an app that can alert when someone wearing these glasses is near you? It is called Nearby Glasses and the Android app basically helps you scan for people wearing the smart glasses and even notifies you when it detects someone prying on others with the camera-laden wearable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearby Glasses App To Detect Glasses: How It Works<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea behind the app has come about from concerns with smart glasses, especially when Meta\u2019s Ray Ban glasses have been allegedly used for surveillance in immigration and also harass people by keeping an eye on them. The person behind the Nearby Glasses app has been quoted saying glasses are a, \u201chorrible piece of tech,” as Yves Jeanrenaud was quoted saying by TechCrunch<\/em> in its report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The news about the app comes at a time when Meta faces new allegations of its Ray Ban smart glasses being used for moderation by humans with tech workers in Kenya accessing all the footage captured through the Meta AI glasses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As highlighted in a Swedish newspaper, some of these workers claim they have been able to see people going to the toilet, taking off their clothes or even having sex. \u201cIn some videos you can see someone going to the toilet, or getting undressed. I don\u2019t think they know, because if they knew they wouldn\u2019t be recording,” the report quotes one of the workers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team is reportedly reviewing the content for data labelling which is a usual part of training AI models.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yves says the app is going to help people feel less violated by these glasses. And cases like these do somehow advocate for some help for millions who are not even sure about what the other person is wearing (regular or smart glass).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So how does the app actually detect the device? He claims the app looks for a Bluetooth signal which is unique to Meta or Snap glasses and sends an alert to the user on their phone. However, he does point to some issues with the app, especially when it can give false alerts that are not linked to a smart glass but probably some other Meta device that it can identify.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
