OpenAI has hired Ruoming Pang, a leading artificial intelligence researcher from Meta, just months after he joined the social media giant from Apple, according to a report by <\/span>The Information<\/span><\/i> citing an OpenAI spokesperson.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Meta, Pang led AI infrastructure initiatives within its Superintelligence Labs the division focused on building next-generation AI models. The report said he left Meta last week following months of sustained recruitment efforts by OpenAI.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before joining Meta, Pang headed model development at Apple. He moved to Meta last year under a multi-year compensation package reportedly worth more than $200 million, tied to specific performance milestones. His departure had already been viewed as a setback for Apple, which has faced mounting pressure to accelerate its AI capabilities and integrate advanced features into its devices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple reportedly chose not to match Meta\u2019s offer at the time, as the compensation package significantly exceeded what the company typically pays executives outside of CEO Tim Cook. Bloomberg had earlier reported that Pang\u2019s Meta deal surpassed $200 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

For recruits forfeiting startup equity, signing bonuses may be adjusted upward to offset potential losses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pang\u2019s move underscores the intensifying battle for AI talent in Silicon Valley, where tech giants are offering multi-million-dollar deals to secure leading researchers in a high-stakes race to dominate the next era of artificial intelligence.<\/span><\/p>\n
