OpenAI has entered the world of ads with ChatGPT and it was about time that we saw companies show interest in the latest ad space in the market. ChatGPT ads are coming for everyone but OpenAI is currently limiting its presence to the US market where brands like Adobe, Ford, Target and Audible have teamed up to target ads for ChatGPT users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As mentioned by The Verge<\/em> in its report, these companies are looking to understand how advertising could work in the AI chatbot arena, and we are certain that most other AI companies will be keeping a close eye on how the pilot tests work out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ChatGPT Ads: What Users Will See<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report further illustrates how ChatGPT ads will be shown to the users, even though we already know the ads will come below the responses from the AI chatbot. Target says it will show ads based on keywords, which means any query that you ask ChatGPT will be interpreted into a set of products available at the retailer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The company says this is an early test and not a full-scale rollout yet which is being tested in the US for now. The idea is to observe how ads fit into the overall experience.\u00a0 Users on paid plans such as Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise will continue to have an ad-free experience. The company has not shared details on whether or when this test will expand to other regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

ChatGPT Ads: What Can Go Wrong?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

OpenAI sees ads as a strong revenue model, which is why it is reportedly charging $60 from these brands for every 1,000 views and this number will only go higher once the reach and usage of ChatGPT increases. Nobody is pleased about ads coming to AI models that are still evolving and learning through different users, it is pivotal that OpenAI goes slow with the integration and not push it forcefully.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the biggest rivals of OpenAI, Google and its AI chief Demis Hassabis was recently quizzed about Gemini and the company\u2019s broader plans to run the AI model over the next few years. He was also asked about any plans to bring ads to Gemini. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hassabis was speaking in Davos at the World Economic Forum, where he confirmed that the company is not planning to bring ads in the AI chatbot anytime soon. \u201cThere are no plans to put ads inside Gemini,”<\/span><\/p>\n
