The United States Embassy in India has issued a firm advisory warning that foreign nationals, including Indian citizens, risk having their visas revoked\u2014and potentially being barred from re-entry for life\u2014if they violate American laws while in the country.<\/p>\n

If you break the law in the United States, your U.S. visa can be revoked, and you may be ineligible to return to the United States \u2013 FOR LIFE,\u201d read a strongly worded message posted by the Embassy on X on July 26.

This latest advisory adds to a string of recent warnings from the US diplomatic mission, all highlighting the legal responsibilities of travellers. On July 22, the embassy reminded visa holders, “If you are arrested for assault, domestic violence, or other crimes while in the United States, your U.S. visa may be revoked, and you may be ineligible for future U.S. visas. A visa is a privilege, not a right \u2013 one that can be revoked if you break the law.”<\/p>\n

A similar caution was issued on July 16, stating that involvement in criminal acts such as theft, assault, or burglary could lead to visa cancellation and make individuals ineligible for any future visa applications. “The United States values law and order and expects foreign visitors to follow all US laws,” the post read.<\/p>\n

Respect law of the land<\/strong><\/p>\n

In response to media queries during a weekly briefing on July 27, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal echoed the sentiment, stressing the responsibility of Indian nationals to respect the legal systems of countries they visit.<\/p>\n

“Our constant request to all our people who go abroad is that they should follow the law and order of that country, and create a good image of the country,” he said. “Whether a person is a citizen of that country or a foreign national, it is their responsibility to abide by the laws there… I would say that whenever our people go abroad, we always urge them to respect and follow the laws of that country, so that they can build a good and positive image for themselves, and through them, also project a good image of our country,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
