The family of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav seems to be facing testing times, with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav\u2019s brother Prateek Yadav taking to social media to announce that he is seeking a divorce from his wife Aparna Yadav. In an Instagram post, Prateek Yadav called Aparna, vice-president of the BJP women\u2019s commission and an outspoken critic of the Samajwadi Party, a \u201cselfish woman” and accused her of \u201cdestroying” his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential. Right now, i am very bad mental health condition (sic) and she doesn\u2019t bother. Because it\u2019s only herself she bothers about. I have never seen such a bad soul, and i was unfortunate to get married to her,” he said.<\/p>\n

The couple tied the knot in 2012 and has a daughter. Aparna Yadav came into the limelight when she decided to jump ship and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2022, shunning the legacy of one of Uttar Pradesh\u2019s most prominent political families.<\/p>\n

Born in what is now Uttarakhand, Aparna Yadav grew up in Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Lucknow. She completed her schooling locally before pursuing higher education abroad. She earned a master\u2019s degree in International Relations and Politics from the University of Manchester, UK. She is also trained in classical and semi-classical music from the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow.<\/p>\n

An animal lover, she also runs an NGO, \u2018B Aware\u2019, which works for animal welfare. She has also been working on issues related to women safety and crimes against women. <\/p>\n

Aparna began her formal political journey with the Samajwadi Party and first came into the electoral spotlight in 2017 when she contested from the Lucknow Cantonment Assembly constituency. Despite a spirited campaign, she lost the election.<\/p>\n

Over time, her political views and public commentary began to diverge from the SP leadership\u2019s stance. She spoke in praise of development policies associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with whom she shares her Thakur-Bisht background.<\/p>\n

In January 2022, Aparna formally joined the BJP, stating that she saw better opportunities to contribute to national development and women\u2019s empowerment through the party\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n
