The OpenAI and Google battle has reached a new leg this week and now you have AI-powered translation available from the ChatGPT maker. The company has used a different twist to make the feature work through the ChatGPT website version and it is obvious that Google Translate is the direct rival for the way it performs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Translation tools allow you to copy paste text from different sources and get it translated in the language you need. OpenAI will offer that part of the feature but the AI element kicks in a bit later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

OpenAI Translation In ChatGPT Is Here<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The most curious part about the new ChatGPT feature is that OpenAI has not shared any news about its release, and even Sam Altman has not written an elaborate post talking about it. It is mostly web-based for now but we expect the mobile app version to be available in the coming months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The web version offers nothing different from other translation platforms. You have two large boxes on each side, where one lets you paste the text you want translated, and in the other you get the resulting version. You can select from a range of languages available in the drop-down menu. The list is currently limited to around 50 with options like German, Hindi, Italian, Spanish, Bengali, Tamil and more available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We do expect OpenAI to have more options available, including the ability to get text translated from an image that you can upload and let the tech do its work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Where Is The AI?<\/strong><\/p>\n

But what is the AI element with the OpenAI version of Translate? The platform does have AI but it only works after you translate the text and want to refine the content in a different tone or style. Ideally, it would have been better for OpenAI to integrate AI in a heavier fashion but that would have probably become an expensive way to handle the tasks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which is why, at least for now, Google Translate will continue to be the de-facto option in the market and OpenAI will need it working on mobile devices to even become a choice for many.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
