Infosys CEO and managing director Salil Parekh categorically dismissed viral social media reports suggesting that a company employee was apprehended and deported by the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

Addressing the issue during the Q3 earnings call on Wednesday, Parekh said the rumours circulating online over the past few days are unfounded.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo Infosys employee has been apprehended by any US authority. A few months ago, one of our employees was denied entry into the US and was sent back to India,” Parekh said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official statement comes after a \u201cwild wild story” shared on social media platform X by a user named Chetan Anantharamu. The post alleged that an Infosys employee from Mysuru, stationed on-site for a project in the US, was summarily \u201cpicked up” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.<\/span><\/p>\n

The post claimed that the employee was given a mere two hours to pack his belongings and forced to choose between incarceration or immediate deportation. It said the worker was subjected to public humiliation during a transit in Frankfurt, claiming that announcements were made on the aircraft to ensure he did not escape.<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u2019s USD 280-billion IT industry is navigating significant visa-related issues and global trade uncertainty, even as the US remains the sector\u2019s largest export market making the stability of the H-1B visa programme vital. Indian firms, however, are facing heightened scrutiny and rising costs, including a USD 1,00,000 fee for new visas, mandatory social media screenings, and unpredictable processing delays.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, Infosys said it remains committed to its delivery model that uses a mix of employees based in India and the US. As the industry continues its push into artificial intelligence and the expansion of global capability centres (GCC), maintaining seamless workforce mobility remains a priority for the IT major.<\/span><\/p>\n
