In a real-life drama that felt like a scene straight out of the popular web series Panchayat, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Bhai Virendra was reportedly caught in a heated argument with the local panchayat secretary over a call. An audio clip, allegedly featuring their conversation, has now gone viral on the Internet, where the MLA is heard scolding the government official for not recognising him upon knowing his name.

The RJD MLA of Maner had called the panchayat secretary to enquire about the death certificate of the husband of a woman named Rinki Devi. But when he failed to recognise Bhai Virendra, things turned tense quickly. “You don’t know Bhai Virendra? You want me to introduce myself? The whole country knows me,” he said.

The government official remained calm and replied to the MLA, saying that if he talked to him respectfully, he would do the same. If he spoke rudely, he would not spare either. The official added that he wasn’t scared of the MLA. Bhai Virendra then hits back, “Joote se maarunga (I will hit you with a shoe), and you can file a case if you want. You don’t follow protocol. You dare to say who is Bhai Virendra?”

Still, the official, now identified as Panchayat Secretary Sandeep Kumar, maintained his composure during the entire conversation. After the incident unfolded, he reportedly filed an FIR against the RJD MLA.

This wasn’t a one-of-a-kind incident. Heated conversations and tussles have become a routine thing between elected representatives and bureaucrats.

Viral Audio Clip Sparks Comparisons To Panchayat’s Power Tussle

This viral audio has reminded many of the feud between MLA Chandrakishore Singh (Pankaj Jha) and Secretary Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) in Prime Video’s web show, Panchayat. Ever since the MLA was introduced into the storyline of the series, he was often seen colliding with Sachiv Ji over various issues in Phulera.

Other Instances When Netas Locked Horns With Government Officials

The Delhi government, under the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had often found itself at odds with the Lieutenant Governor’s office. They repeatedly found themselves either in the Supreme Court or the High Court over various issues. Over the years, the former Delhi CM has had repeated showdowns with LG VK Saxena over administrative disputes, fund allocations and other government schemes.

Meanwhile, back in August 2024, the then Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal came under fire for the way the police handled the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the CBI when the police failed to make any progress on it. Top BJP leaders accused the police commissioner of covering up the case and even highlighted a similar case that happened in 2013 under his watch.

Why Netas Repeatedly Lock Horns With Government Officials?

Such conflicts between elected representatives, or netas, and government officials have become a repetitive issue in India’s political scenario. While both sides are meant to work together to run the country properly, their differing views and affiliations often put them at loggerheads. Here are some of the reasons why both parties clash from time to time.

Political interference: Politicians often attempt to influence administrative decisions, such as transfers or specific rulings in favour of their supporters, to achieve their political goals.

Differing objectives: Politicians and government officials have different objectives in a political scenario. While the former have to maintain a good public image to win in elections, the latter have the responsibility to uphold rules and act within the law.

Corruption: Some politicians often request and sometimes demand that government officials overlook irregularities or ask for favours, which, when denied, causes friction.

Lack of clear role definitions: The lines between the powers and responsibilities of elected representatives and appointed officials are not well-defined, leading to a tussle between the two parties.

Power dynamics: The dynamics between elected officials and appointed bureaucrats can be complex, with instances where either side may assert dominance or resist perceived encroachments on their authority.

Buzz Staff

A team of writers at News18.com bring you stories on what’s creating the buzz on the Internet while exploring science, cricket, tech, gender, Bollywood, and culture.

A team of writers at News18.com bring you stories on what’s creating the buzz on the Internet while exploring science, cricket, tech, gender, Bollywood, and culture.

News18’s viral page features trending stories, videos, and memes, covering quirky incidents, social media buzz from india and around the world, Also Download the News18 App to stay updated!

view comments

Location :

Delhi, India, India

First Published:

News viral Is ‘Panchayat’ Real Story?
