Spirit Air has announced a detailed plan to launch flight operations across Bihar under the central government\u2019s flagship UDAN scheme, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and introduce international flights to Nepal.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on August 5, the airline confirmed that it will begin phased operations from new airports currently under development in Bihta, Birpur, Saharsa, Munger, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Raxaul and Valmiki Nagar. The plan was discussed in a meeting between Spirit Air promoter Subodh Verma and Bihar’s Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), S Siddharth.<\/p>\n

Spirit Air said the new airports will be connected to cities such as Varanasi, which will offer further connections to Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Flights from Bihar to Bengaluru will provide onward links to Hyderabad and Chennai through partner airlines. Bihta will serve as a key point for direct flights to Patna, Jamshedpur and Bokaro.<\/p>\n

The airline also revealed plans for international expansion in its second phase. These include direct flights from Muzaffarpur to Kathmandu and Janakpur, from Birpur to Rajbiraj and Biratnagar, from Valmiki Nagar to Kathmandu and Bhairahawa, and from Bihta to Kathmandu.<\/p>\n

Calling the initiative a strategic step towards inclusive air travel, Spirit Air said the plan supports the Government of India\u2019s vision to make aviation accessible to the common citizen and stimulate economic growth in underserved regions.<\/p>\n

The airline will operate a versatile fleet for these routes, including the Islander BN2T-4S-STOL aircraft, known for its ability to handle passenger, cargo and medevac services, and the King Air 250, which offers pressurised cabins and multi-mission capabilities.<\/p>\n

The operational rollout follows the Bihar Cabinet\u2019s recent approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state\u2019s Directorate of Aviation and the Airports Authority of India. The MoU paves the way for the development of six airports in Madhubani, Birpur (Supaul), Munger, Valmiki Nagar (Bettiah), Muzaffarpur and Saharsa. A total of \u20b9150 crore has been allocated for the project, with \u20b925 crore earmarked for each airport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
