Distancing her party from the Congress\u2019s allegations of \u2018vote chori\u2019, Nationalist Congress Party (<\/span>Sharadchandra<\/span> Pawar) MP <\/span>Supriya<\/span> Sule<\/span> said that she has been elected four times because of the same machines.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have been elected on the same machine, so I will not question the EVMs or VVPATs. I am not speaking against the machine. I am making a very limited point, and with great expectations from the <\/span>Bharatiya<\/span> Janata Party, which has got such a big mandate in Maharashtra,” said <\/span>Sule<\/span>, the four-term Lok Sabha member from Baramati in Maharashtra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sule<\/span>, an ally of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, made the remarks while speaking during the debate on election reforms, days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Centre of poll rigging \u2013 a charge the Opposition has been making for many years.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Leader of Opposition, during the debate, reiterated his allegation that the BJP is \u201cdirecting and using” the Election Commission to damage India\u2019s democracy. Rahul Gandhi also questioned the removal of the Chief Justice of India from the selection panel for appointing the Election Commissioners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hit back at Rahul Gandhi, stating that the EVMs were introduced in the country by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and it is his son and his party now that oppose them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Shah also pointed out that it was the Congress that won the first election held through EVMS.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was in 2004 when Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister. Ten years later, when we won in 2014, they (the Congress) raised doubts,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n
