ChatGPT is the most-downloaded app on the App Store for 2025, as confirmed by Apple with its latest year-end charts. ChatGPT is a free app and that\u2019s where it has got the top rank among iPhone users which is a big sign for OpenAI about the success of the AI chatbot in the US region. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is a big jump for ChatGPT which was only fourth best app on the App Store last year. ChatGPT becoming the most downloaded free app also tells you how AI has become a core part of people\u2019s lives in 2025 and even though Google has taken the lead in the AI race, OpenAI still has plenty to offer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Top App Downloaded But Only Free\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Having ChatGPT at the top is all good but OpenAI needs more of these downloads to convert into premium\/paid users which is why you also have the new ChatGPT Go plan in the market. These companies are spending billions to keep the AI models running and the eventual business strategy needs them to make some money back and this will be a start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AI has been the talk of the year so having ChatGPT and other apps like Gemini making their way to these lists is hardly surprising and we could see the trend develop further into 2026 as the AI models mature, get more powerful and gain agentic abilities. <\/span><\/p>\n

And the process has already started with the ChatGPT 5.2 rolling out as it looks to compete with the fast-evolving Gemini 3 model and offer better contextual responses and other features. Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI has triggered a \u2018code red\u2019 situation at the company which means we might see faster ChatGPT rollouts and the GPT 5.2 version is probably starting that phase for the AI giant.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company is calling ChatGPT 5.2 as its most advanced model for professional work, which includes creating presentations and handling other heavy duty tasks like coding at both ends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
