Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah\u2019s son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, has once again stirred political waters by asserting that his father will remain in office for the full five-year term \u2014 a statement seen as flouting the High Command\u2019s gag order on commenting about state leadership.<\/p>\n

His remark comes amid ongoing speculation of a power tussle between Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The chatter has persisted despite the High Command\u2019s efforts, including two breakfast meetings \u2014 one at the CM\u2019s residence and another at Shivakumar\u2019s home \u2014 aimed at projecting a united front.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to make it clear that Siddaramaiah will remain CM for five years. I don\u2019t see any reason for a change in leadership,” Yathindra said, drawing immediate responses from party leaders.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the statement, DK Shivakumar said, \u201cI am very happy, let good things happen for the state\u2026 let good things happen.”<\/p>\n

Minister KH Muniyappa described leadership change talks as \u201cunnecessary,” while Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan clarified, \u201cThe CM\u2019s chair is not vacant. My previous comment about 2028 was only in the hypothetical context of a vacancy. We have the High Command, with the CM and DCM in place. Whatever happens, the High Command will decide.”<\/p>\n

Muniyappa also emphasised that statements by Yathindra and Basavaraj Shivaganga reflected their personal opinions, adding that everyone in the party must abide by the High Command\u2019s decisions.<\/p>\n

Yathindra had made a similar statement earlier on November 27, asserting that his father would complete a full five-year term as Chief Minister. \u201cIn my view, there is no need for a change of Chief Minister,” he said. \u201cSiddaramaiah will continue as the full-term Chief Minister. I do not know why the issue of leadership change is being discussed repeatedly. I am not aware of any earlier discussions about power sharing.”<\/p>\n

Notably, Yathindra has not been issued any show-cause notice for his repeated remarks about his father\u2019s tenure, even as other MLAs and party leaders who have commented on the leadership issue have received notices.<\/p>\n

While Yathindra\u2019s comments have added fuel to speculation, the ultimate authority on the state leadership rests with the Congress High Command. It remains to be seen when the High Command will take a call.<\/p>\n
